Honoring a Legacy of Peace
The 50th Anniversary Celebration was an opportunity for our Student
Leader Programs alumni to honor the legacy of People to People founder,
President Dwight D. Eisenhower. With student leaders from around the
world, they experienced dramatic visuals and heard amazing stories of
international friendship that all began in 1956 when President
Eisenhower sought a peaceful alternative to the wars he witnessed as a
soldier, general and Allied Commander.
Celebrating in Style
Two distinct events formed the cornerstone of the 50th Anniversary
Celebration: |
|
 |
A formal reception and dinner
featuring keynote speaker Tom Brokaw, where the NBC
anchorman and author shared perspectives that he gained
documenting history in the making. The experiences Mr. Brokaw
shared relate the vital message about the value of seeking and
maintaining peace through nonmilitary means.
A birthday party at the Eisenhower Historic Site hosted
by Mary Jean Eisenhower, president and CEO of People to
People International and granddaughter of President Eisenhower.
While at the Eisenhower farm, delegates walked in the steps of world
leaders of the day, including French President Charles de Gaulle
and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. |

Fostering Friendships
As an alumni-only program, the 50th Anniversary Celebration was a chance
for student leaders to reconnect with friends from previous People to
People Student Leader Programs and get to know others who share their
interests in world citizenship.
Charting a Course for the Next 50 Years
Together, student leaders and international experts set the stage for
the future of People to People and their role in making the world
a better place.
